A week ago we left for a long weekend in the bush for a little R&R, which was incredible but now feels like a distant memory.

By Sunday eve I felt recharged and ready to tackle this week, but by yesterday I was a complete mess (like panic attack, tears, feeling like I couldn’t breath kind of mess).

Running your own creative consultancy / food business is hard - especially when you put a huge amount of effort in and want to make it work as much as I do. Suppliers are slow, sales are slow, things don’t go according to plan, people pay late, cash flow concerns keeps me awake at night, clients can be difficult and want the world from you for very little, people ask for ludicrous rate discounts (like we don’t have our own bills to pay), people say no and you put your heart and soul into work that you’re proud of but then a couple days later ask yourself WTF the point is.

The last year has been mammoth and I feel like it’s catching up with me. Things seem to be “normalising” but the world is upside down, people are doing what they can to survive. I’m doing what I can to survive. I can’t work any harder than I already am, but I can work smarter.

So if you’re in the same boat as me, I share you pain, tears, anxiety and stress. Don’t forget to celebrate the small wins, our hard work will pay off eventually.

A few weeks ago I posted an image of a veg box delivery I received, saying that I was embarking on testing a few of them and compiling an honest, unpaid, unsponsored review. Well, I finally got around to publishing it today.

The need for finding a veg box supplier came out of wanting something reliable and convenient while supporting a small local business. I kicked off my research by asking Joburg friends on Facebook who received veg boxes for recommendations and received some great feedback, which helped me make the decision on who to select for this review.

Experimenting with nut butters is something I star

Experimenting with nut butters is something I started doing around 2014, when I was following a HFLC diet. Back then the nut butter industry was still very much in its infancy in South Africa, so I made a lot of my own. My poor Nutribullet used to take such a beating, that it eventually had to be replaced after I burnt the motor out 🤦🏼‍♀️

Fast-forward a few years and my equipment has since been upgraded to a Thermomix, although I don’t really make my own nut butter anymore but still love the stuff!

@buttanuttspreads sent me a very generous box of their range of nut butters a couple of weeks ago, which I haven’t really had to time to get properly stuck into yet - but it’s coming!

I did manage to work this Cinnamon Macadamia Nut Butter into the Horchata Oat & Fig Bowl recipe I published on my site a few days ago, which worked beautifully.
